Description The New Jersey State Board of Education requires that all career and technical education (CTE) programs be approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. In accordance with the Department's re-approval schedule as outlined in the Five Year State Plan for Career and Technical Education, CTE programs are scheduled for re-approval in the Human Services career cluster during the 2012-13 school year.

The Office of Career and Technical Education will host a full day work session for school districts currently operating an approved CTE program(s) in this career cluster. Teachers, department chairs, and/or administrators of CTE programs are strongly encouraged to attend this full day work session being offered on this topic.

The aim of the session is to assist participants in developing a substantially approvable CTE program or program of study application in this career cluster by the end of the day. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with Office of CTE state staff as well as colleagues from other school districts and learn about tools and resources related to the career cluster. This will provide participants with an enhanced understanding of the components of a quality CTE program or program of study.

It is recommended that participants bring the following materials to the workshop:
course descriptions and/or course syllabi and/or curriculum;
listing of specific business/labor partnerships;
listing of specific structured learning experiences (SLEs);
copies of existing articulation agreements with postsecondary institutions;
listing of any related assessments/credentials;
description of the academic support services and programs offered to students to support, accelerate or enhance academic performance that are applicable to the CTE program or program of study;
laptop computer and power strip or battery pack sufficient for the entire day (power strips and extension cords will not be provided onsite);
copy of re-approval application (electronic or paper) downloadable from the NJDOE website at: http://www.nj.gov/education/cte/study/approval/appre/

A listing of approved CTE programs can be found on the NJDOE website at:

CTE program re-approval applications in this career cluster are due to the Office of CTE by December 21, 2012.

PLEASE NOTE: Ample free parking is available on-site and lunch will be provided at no cost to attendees.

We will begin sign-in onsite at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.
