Description This event is sponsored by the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE), Office of Special Education (OSE) and the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN).


In special education, collaboration between families and educators is essential. This training offers parents, caregivers and educators an opportunity to learn about their rights in the special education process and how to be an effective partner in the education of children. Topics will include:
• an understanding of the parent’s role as part of a collaborative team;
• effective communication strategies;
• steps to creating agreement;
• understanding procedural safeguards; and
• strategies for organizing information and preparing for IEP meetings.

Audience: Parents, grandparents, guardians and educators of students with disabilities

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

2. Cancellation of registration must be made at least 48 hours before the workshop date.

3. Snacks will be provided.

4. Because registration is limited and determined on a first come, first served basis, we recommend that you register early. There is no on-site registration.

5. On-site sign-in is between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Participants should be prepared for the likelihood of heavy rush hour traffic.
