September 2012
West Essex Regional High School is located in North Caldwell and serves the four area sending districts of Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell, and Roseland.

Our mission is to produce self-sufficient citizens who are adaptable to change and who possess the self-esteem, motivation and skills to achieve success in life.
A dedication to academic excellence remains a hallmark of West Essex. As we move into a global economy and an increasingly technological world, our curriculum and course offerings continuously evolve to reflect 21st century teaching and learning. West Essex High School is focused on quality educational experiences that promote excellence through an active and responsible partnership with the community, a visionary and innovative curriculum, and a dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Our staff development programs continue to offer our faculty the support necessary to provide a superior education to our students.

Our student body of approximately 1100 students has the opportunity to choose from over 196 different courses of study. Students with exceptional academic abilities may also participate in any of our 21 Advanced Placement (AP) courses with the possibility of earning college credit. Our AP courses include: Art History, Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science A, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, European History, French, Italian, Latin, Macroeconomics, Physics B, Spanish, Statistics, Studio Art, U.S. History, and U.S. Government & Politics. Effective differentiation takes place at all instructional levels to help our students develop their abilities to the fullest. Independent thinking and collaborative work principles are encouraged in our instructional strategies for students of all levels while technology continues to be infused based upon the needs of our curriculum and our students. 94% of students go on to higher education, with acceptances at some of the best colleges and universities in the nation. West Essex High School is consistently ranked among the top high schools in New Jersey. In New Jersey Monthly Magazine, we are currently ranked 16th on their list of “2012 Top 100 Public High Schools in New Jersey.”

West Essex also offers a wide variety of co-curricular activities with more than 85% of our students participating. As they move on to college, many of these students have continued and excelled in these areas. Our arts program has produced dramas and musicals that offer our students opportunities to develop their creative talents. The marching band and color guard have won awards and continue to grow and attract more participants than ever before. Our interscholastic athletic program offers 26 sports for boys and girls on varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels. We strive for excellence in all areas of athletics and continue to win county, conference, and state championships. These programs develop a strong work ethic in our students that transfers to real life situations as they move on to college and careers. Character education and service to the community are encouraged through our Senior Service Program, National Honor Society, Peer Leaders, Key Club, and several other co-curricular clubs and activities.

Our high school is staffed by 115 dedicated and highly qualified faculty members. Seventy-five percent of our teachers hold master’s degrees. Of those, forty percent have earned an additional 30-60 credit with three staff members holding doctoral degrees. The faculty represents a perfect blend of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm. The result is a concerned and cohesive staff with the capability to articulate, implement, and support an effective educational program for the communities of West Essex.

West Essex High School’s extensive course offerings, wide range of extra and co-curricular clubs/activities, and an emphasis on community service afford our students the best opportunities to grow and reach their fullest potential as self-sufficient citizens.
