OLDMANS TOWNSHIP SCHOOL
DISTRICT REPORT CARD NARRATIVE

Our Mission

The Mission of the Oldmans Township School District is to prepare all students to take advantage of future opportunities. We recognize that learning is the result of a strong partnership involving all community stakeholders. The Oldmans Township School District uses data driven research based programs to provide quality-learning activities, problem solving experiences, and reflective assessment practices that address the individual learning styles of students. In addition to our academic rigor and comprehensive K-8 curriculum, we offer students an array of activities and assemblies that foster social interaction skills important in today’s global society.

State Standards

The district continues to implement New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels. Double periods and small class size instructional units for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math are incorporated for all students. We read authentic literature as a basis for the mastery of language arts skills. Math in grades K-5 uses the Everyday Math Program; in grade 6 Connected Math, grade 7 Pre-Algebra, and 8th grade Algebra I. Oldmans sends students in grades 9-12 to the Penns Grove-Carneys Point and Woodstown School Districts, as well as Academy Programs throughout Salem County. We continuously upgrade instructional materials to reflect current expectations for student performance. Staff training initiatives focus on interactive teaching strategies, alternative assessments, integration of technology, and writing throughout the curricula.

In compliance with the federal legislation “No Child Left Behind” and the State of New Jersey, standardized tests are administered to all students in grades 3-8. The areas assessed are Language Arts Literacy (Reading and Writing), Mathematics, and Science. Target goals, also known as Annual Yearly Progress goals (AYP), are established for two-year cycles. Oldmans Township School students continue to attain and surpass the AYP goals set by the State of New Jersey.

The Oldmans Township Board of Education, administration, and teaching staff continue to maintain high standards of performance and participation through a wide range of quality educational programs in a K-8 setting.
