LINCOLN
Abraham Lincoln High School, with a population of 1200 students, is located in the heart of a city eagerly embracing the twenty first century. Lincoln benefits from Jersey Citys newly revitalized Hudson River waterfront, which welcomes national and international visitors at hotels and some of the finer restaurants in the tri-state area. The city houses well-respected financial institutions, a university, a college, a community college, and several post secondary skill based schools.Fortunately, the Lincoln staff recognized the riches inherent in this type of growing cosmopolitan setting very early in the citys redevelopment. In response, it created an expanded instructional program that capitalizes on the wider variety of educational and employment opportunities now available to students and graduates. Lincoln Lions take special pride in the inclusion of the school community in important decision-making practices and host an assortment of parent/guardian activities throughout the year.
Lincoln High School is the first secondary school in the area to develop a Ninth Grade Academy. On February 23, 2005, the Charles T Epps Jr. Freshman Academy opened its doors focusing exclusively on the needs and learning styles of students transitioning from elementary and middle school settings. The school year begins with a two-day mandatory orientation for students. The objective of this program is to reduce the stress for freshmen transitioning into high school.
Lincoln continues to celebrate the accomplishments of the student body with the larger community through the school newsletter, monthly mailings, and special assemblies. The Parent- Teachers Association and the School Leadership Committee join with students and staff in contributing to the development and articulation of Lincolns mission and place in the twenty-first century.
