NUMBER 5
At Dr. Michael Conti School, our motto is, "We believe we can achieve." Our mission is to ensure all children have equal access to all educational opportunities. We believe that all children can learn. We provide a nurturing environment whereby all children can grow, enhance their self-worth, and succeed academically. We value close ties between children, staff, parents and the community. Thus, we cultivate an environment for teaching and learning that is positive, productive, and collaborative. This effort has unified our school community fostering full participation by all stakeholders in our educational process. We celebrate cultural, linguistic and learning diversity and empower students with life-long learning abilities. At Conti, we are dedicated to advancing student achievement by creating a productive learning environment that provides a host of programs and school initiatives that addresses the needs of our diverse learners. Our bilingual program includes a dual language component that maximizes opportunities in biliteracy for speakers of both English and Spanish. As a fully inclusive school, our special needs students are provided with the least restrictive environment and differentiated instruction. We have supplemented the district's literacy and math curriculum through our Extended Day Program whose goal is to provide further instruction in the skills measured by the NJ-ASK exams. We also have in place an intervention program that schedules teachers to support academically at risk students in one-to-one and small group tutorial sessions. These programs and enterprises enrich the lives of our students with life-long learning experiences that empower them to reach their potential and become literate, knowledgeable, critical thinkers. Conti is a project/problem based learning (PBL) school motivating our students to investigate and make discoveries. We place a strong emphasis on the sensible use of technology to gather information, organize information and solve problems.Conti Elementary has developed a climate where Collaborative Professional Learning is the norm, on going, and school-wide. Through the leadership of our principal, we have been able to create a learning organization that is based on collaboration, communication, and consensus. Our goals and objectives are established by our school-based advisory body, School Leadership Council (SLC), through shared decision-making. Faculty members meet regularly at the Administrators' Forum, PBL Roundtable Exchanges, and as small learning communities. Our focus at grade level, content area, and cross-grade level meetings is to analyze and discuss data, curriculum implementation, instructional goals, assessment strategies, or brainstorm ideas. These CPL sessions enable all stakeholders to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability resulting in an enhancement of overall teaching and learning.
At our school, students in PreK to 8th grade are engaged in quality, authentic learning activities. A walk through the halls of Dr. Michael Conti School reflects ongoing interdisciplinary projects of authentic, high-quality student work. Teachers and students take pride and ownership of their projects. Classroom displays and bulletin boards are evidence of the detailed and arduous work that is put into everything that is learned and highlight the creativity, expression, and skill of the students.
The Jersey City Public School District has aligned its curriculum and developed grade level competencies and student performance standards. These curricula, competencies, and standards are consistent with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. They establish high expectations for all students and have guided the districts efforts. These expectations for students are reflected in the District Strategic Plan and in the goals for student achievement indicated in School Level Plans. The intent is to fully prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.
At Conti, we expect our students to perform and maintain high standards to ensure their academic success. We are exceedingly proud of our students' success and our school's accomplishments. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at 201-714-4301.
