NUMBER 29

Have you ever visited the “Little Red School House” on the corner of Claremont and Rose Avenue? This is the Gladys C. Nunery School # 29. Its cornerstone is dated 1901, making it one of the oldest schools in the city. Our main building is located at 123 Claremont Avenue. It consists of 18 classes ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through grade five. It houses 371 students and 50 teachers, including support staff. Our second educational site, P.S. #29 Annex, is located at 70 Claremont Avenue. The annex consists of two Pre-3 Kindergarten and nine Pre-4 Kindergarten classes. The annex houses 150 students. The staff is composed of an Assistant Principal, 28 teachers and support staff. Since we are a fully inclusive school, we have inclusion classes in both buildings.
Even though our students are housed in two different facilities, we still manage to run a “small learning community.” The mission of Gladys C. Nunery School # 29 is to ensure a world-class education for all students and to pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student, resulting in measured improvement against local and statewide standards. Our faculty is made up of people who have a love for learning and continually strive to improve their skills and level of awareness. The staff sets high standards and expectations for themselves, as well as their students. This is demonstrated by their commitment in fostering the school’s mission. As a result of all the diligent work and dedication put forward by staff, parents and children, our school has been a recipient of many educational honors.

Our vision is to take the most appropriate teaching methods and infuse them in the most natural manner into a highly effective instructional or administrative program. This helps our school achieve a richer, more challenging, and more rewarding educational experience. We encourage parents and community members to be part of our success by offering students diverse programs and services. These include:

• Do Something Club
• NJPAC Dance and Theater Residencies

This combination sets the scene for all of the awards that our students and staff receive. Among them are:

• Student of the Month
• Perfect Attendance
• Academic awards for Honor, Credit, and Effort Rolls

Our school family recognizes these various achievements with monthly “School Spirit” staff celebrations.
