JOTHAM W WAKEMAN 6

J.W. Wakeman is a full service primary academic institution that provides a comprehensive educational program from Pre-kindergarten to Grade 5. We are a fully inclusive school where as most special needs students are mainstreamed into general education classrooms. The basic principles and philosophies of Wakeman are to educate our children to reach their maximum potential of growth in the areas of personal, social and academic development. This philosophy enables them to become responsible, productive students who can recognize the relevance of global issues.
Implementing this philosophy engages our students in learning that nurtures and guides them toward becoming well-rounded knowledgeable individuals, who are able to contribute to the betterment of society. Our students are involved in inquiry processes that motivate them to learn, question and seek information. We believe that these practices will enable them to problem solve and make important decisions affecting themselves, others and their environment.

Our literacy programs include Breakthrough to Literacy, 100 Book Challenge, guided reading, shared reading, and whole group instruction. Our mathematics program includes Everyday Math and LL Teach. We also have an extended day program for Language Arts and Mathematics to prepare students for the NJASK.

At Wakeman, we strive to create an atmosphere where children feel comfortable, as well as challenged.
