LENAPE VAL REGIONAL HIGH (37-2615-050)

Lenape Valley Regional High School, located in Stanhope, New Jersey serves the communities of Byram Township, Netcong Boro, and Stanhope Borough, while bridging Morris and Sussex counties. Over the last five years, Lenape Valley Regional High School was recognized for many educational awards including designation by the State Department of Education as a High Performing District in 2007 and recognition by US News and World Report as one of America’s Top High Schools and a recipient of the Bronze Award in 2008. Lenape Valley Regional High School was again designated a High Performing District by the State Department of Education, achieving 496 of a possible 500 points in the NJQSAC monitoring process in 2010. In 2011, we applied and were selected by the State Department of Education to be a Choice School District. Based upon a 90% proficiency rate in all testing areas and our high graduation rate, Lenape Valley Regional High School also recently received the the highest distinction for any school, designation as a Level “A” Reward School by the State Department of Education in 2011.
The district prides itself on our rigorous academic and co-curricular programs that encourage and support students to respect our proud traditions as well as to meet the challenges of a 21st century education. Students are required to obtain 140 credits in order to graduate. We require four years each of mathematics and social studies and have a community service requirement. In addition to advanced placement courses, curriculum offerings include electives at honors, college preparatory and academic levels. To meet world language graduation requirements and to prepare our students for a global society we offer Spanish, French, German, and Chinese. Through partnerships with Syracuse University and Sussex County Community College, students may enroll in a concurrent credit program for which they may receive college credit for courses taught at Lenape Valley. English, History, Psychology, Sociology, Biology, Spanish, and Financial Accounting are among the 12 courses in which students are able to earn college credit. We have also created a “Schools Within a School” program allowing students to “minor” in specified curriculum areas resulting in a more attractive resume for colleges to review. For a school its size, Lenape Valley offers an extraordinary number of elective courses, including classes such as Electronic Music Technology, Video Game Design, E-Commerce, Video Editing, Forensic Science, and Astronomy.

The graduating Class of 2011 embraced the expectations of achievement established by previous classes. Those who chose to attend four-year colleges earned a combined SAT math and critical reading score of 1040. Consistent with past trends, the post-secondary plans for an overwhelming majority of 2011’s graduates included the continuation of their education after high school.

In addition to our concurrent credit program, a sizeable number of Lenape Valley Regional High School students embark upon their college-level study during their high school years via our nine subject area Advanced Placement courses. Out of a total of 204 juniors and 213 graduating seniors, 87 students took 165 AP exams, with 71 percent of those students scoring a three or higher on the five-point scoring scale and becoming eligible to receive college credit. Eleven students were named AP Scholars with seven students earning AP Scholar with Distinction Honors. These impressive results, achieved by our most ambitious students, serve as the blueprint for the district’s strategic plan which is focused on increasing student success at all educational levels.

Our district goals reflect efforts to maintain traditional values and successful performance while incorporating more progressive programs and challenging assessments. Meaningful infusion of technology across the curriculum and the implementation of a building-wide strategic plan to focus on goals and objectives promote the concept of a visionary academic high school.
We strive to proactively communicate this vision with parents and students and to provide a safe environment conducive to the pursuit of academic excellence. The Lenape Valley Regional High School District remains committed to providing a curriculum which maintains our position as a prominent educational institution. While building a foundation of excellence we endeavor to achieve our vision for the individual and collective success of our students and school community and to assist all students in reaching their fullest potential.
